Improve Approval Rates
Most AI tools have a 40โ60% approval rate across directories. Here's how to push yours above 90%.
The Approval Rate Problem
The average AI tool gets rejected from 40โ60% of directories it submits to. That means if you submit to 100 directories, you might only get listed on 40โ60. The good news: most rejections are preventable with proper preparation.
10 Ways to Boost Your Approval Rate
1. Make Your Website Look Professional
Directory reviewers visit your site before approving. If your landing page has broken links, placeholder text, or looks like a weekend project, you'll get rejected. Invest time in a clean, polished website - even a simple one- page site works if it's well- designed.
2. Have a Working Product
"Coming soon" pages get rejected by 95% of directories. Your tool needs to be live and accessible. If you're in closed beta, provide a demo video or screenshots that show the product actually working.
3. Use a Custom Domain
Tools hosted on free subdomains (tool.vercel.app, tool.netlify.app) have significantly lower approval rates than those on custom domains. A .com or .ai domain costs $10โ15/year and dramatically improves credibility.
4. Add an About Page and Contact Info
Directories want to list legitimate businesses, not fly- by- night operations. Add an About page with your story and a way to contact you. A real person behind the product builds trust.
5. Include Pricing Information
Even if your tool is free, say so explicitly. Directories prefer tools with clear pricing - it shows you've thought about your business model. "Free" or "Freemium starting at $20/month" is better than no pricing page at all.
6. Write Category- Specific Descriptions
If a directory lets you choose a category, tailor your description to that category. A code assistant listed under "Developer Tools" should emphasize IDE integrations, not generic AI capabilities.
7. Upload a High- Quality Logo
A pixelated or stretched logo is an instant red flag. Use a PNG or SVG at 512ร512 pixels minimum. Make sure it looks good on both light and dark backgrounds.
8. Provide Screenshots
Directories that show screenshots in listings always prefer submissions that include them. Take clean screenshots of your tool's main interface - no browser chrome, no cluttered tabs.
9. Follow Each Directory's Guidelines
Every directory has specific submission requirements. Some want descriptions under 200 words. Some require specific image dimensions. Some don't allow affiliate links. Read the guidelines before submitting - it takes 2 minutes and prevents avoidable rejections.
10. Don't Submit Duplicates
Submitting the same tool twice to the same directory is an instant rejection and might get you blacklisted. Keep a spreadsheet to track where you've submitted.
Our submission service handles all of this for you - we customize descriptions for each directory, follow their guidelines, and track every submission with a detailed report.
Approval Rate Benchmarks
Below 40% - your product or listing needs work. 40โ60% - average, room for improvement. 60โ80% - good, you're doing most things right. 80%+ - excellent, you're a submission pro.
