Why Submissions Get Rejected
Understanding the most common rejection reasons so you can avoid them and get listed faster.
The Top 12 Rejection Reasons
After analyzing thousands of directory submissions, these are the most common reasons tools get rejected - ranked from most to least frequent.
1. Product Isn't Live (32% of rejections)
The #1 reason by far. "Coming soon" pages, broken links, login- gated products with no demo, and "under construction" notices all result in instant rejection. Your tool must be accessible and functional at the time of submission.
2. Low- Quality Website (18%)
Directories are curated - they don't want to list tools that make their platform look bad. Common website issues include template sites with placeholder content, no HTTPS, excessive ads, slow load times, and mobile- unfriendly layouts.
3. Vague or Generic Description (14%)
"An AI tool that helps you be more productive" tells the reviewer nothing. If they can't understand what your tool does in 10 seconds, they'll reject it. Be specific about the problem you solve and how you solve it.
4. Wrong Category (8%)
Submitting a chatbot under "Image Generation" or a code tool under "Marketing" confuses reviewers and users. Pick the most accurate category, even if a broader one has more traffic.
5. Duplicate Submission (7%)
Submitting the same tool twice - either to the same directory or as a "new" submission after rejection - is flagged automatically by most platforms. If you were rejected, fix the issues first, then resubmit.
6. No Logo or Poor Logo Quality (5%)
Missing logos, blurry images, or logos that are just text in a default font signal low effort. A clean, recognizable logo at 256ร256px minimum is expected.
7. Not Actually AI (4%)
Some tools claim to be "AI- powered" but are actually simple automation, templates, or rebranded APIs with no meaningful AI functionality. Directories are increasingly strict about this - your tool should have genuine AI/ML capabilities.
8. Spam or Affiliate Content (4%)
Descriptions stuffed with keywords, links to affiliate pages, or promotional language like "BEST AI TOOL OF 2024!!!" are treated as spam. Write naturally for humans, not search engines.
9. No Pricing Information (3%)
Some directories require clear pricing. If your tool is free, say it. If it's freemium, show the tiers. Hiding pricing makes reviewers suspicious.
10. Broken Registration/Login (2%)
Reviewers often try to sign up or log in. If your auth flow is broken, returns errors, or requires a credit card with no free tier, some directories will reject the submission.
11. Inappropriate Content (2%)
Tools that generate NSFW content, deepfakes, or content that violates platform policies are rejected from most mainstream directories.
12. Incomplete Submission Form (1%)
Leaving optional fields empty, providing a one- word description, or skipping the screenshot upload. Filling in every field shows the reviewer you're serious.
What to Do After a Rejection
- Don't panic - rejections are normal. Even great tools get rejected from some directories.
- Read the rejection reason - if the directory provides feedback, address the specific issue.
- Fix the problem - update your website, rewrite your description, or fix the technical issue.
- Wait before resubmitting - most directories have a cooldown period (7โ30 days). Respect it.
- Move on - some directories are just picky. Focus on the ones that accepted you and submit to new ones.
๐ The Golden Rule
Before submitting, visit your own website as if you've never seen it before. Does it clearly explain what the tool does? Does it look trustworthy? Can you actually use the product? If the answer to any of these is no, fix it first.
